If a Minecraft wolf could tell his story, this would be it

Take a wolf story in the alpha's point of view and put it into a Minecraft setting. That is just the beginning of Lobo's diary. It comes at a crucial point that can change his status drastically. There is plenty of action on the alpha's journey to find his pack after an avalanche carries them down Frozo Mountain. Naturally he will come across mobs and humans in this Minecraft world, and that just takes his wilderness story to another level. Will he find his pack and will they accept him as their leader? This is a grey story for those who love reading Minecraft diaries.

Loved this action packed book

Loved this action packed book. I highly recommend this book taken from Lobo's (alpha wolf) point of view. I couldn't put it down. There are twists and turns at every corner as Lobo's life is changed. Even though I'm not really into Minecraft. l really enjoyed this book and hope for more to come.

About the Author

Riley E. Dunlap is Dresser Professor and Regents Professor of Sociology at Oklahoma State University, Past President of the International Sociological Association's Research Committee on Environment & Society, and Past Chair of the American Sociological Association's Section on Environment & Technology. He is senior editor of the Handbook of Environmental Sociology and Sociological Theory and the Environment, and a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

Dr. Robert J. Brulle is Professor of Sociology and Environmental Science at Drexel University, and Past Chair of the American Sociological Association's Section on Environment & Technology. He is author of Agency, Democracy, and Nature: The U.S. Environmental Movement from a Critical Theory Perspective and co-editor of Power, Justice and the Environment. He was a 2012 -2013 Fellow at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University.

A Must Read for Climate Believers, Skeptics and the Who-Cares Crowd

This anthology of studies covers the important but poorly publicized transition of the traditional "Earth Day" legacy environmental movement into today's climate change movement, which is dominated by coalitions, not stand-alone Big Green organizations. The scholars represented appear to be a vanguard of sociological researchers paying attention to the public policy influence of the emerging climate change movement, but seem surprisingly blind to the old-line coalitions of foundations, such as the Environmental Grantmakers Association (1985), that are the actual forces behind the changes they study. As in most public policy arenas, the power of the purse rules over all environmental groups, which is perhaps too mundane for academicians.
The last section of this otherwise credible work unfolds a series of stale deprecations of climate "deniers" lifted almost verbatim from the over-earnest rants of Naomi Oreskes and the let's-imprison-deniers plans of the Union of Concerned Scientists. The automaton-like repetition of "The Consensus Narrative" of climate alarmists becomes amusing once the shock wears off of seeing tenured professors displaying personal rage against all who disagree with their august wisdoms, such as they are. The only insight the last section has to offer is how spleen is rewarded in the climate crowd, which is evidently just another publication to forestall the Publish Or Perish curse of academe. A fresh idea or two would have improved the dish, like Major Gray's chutney improves an unremarkable curry.
Read it for sure. If you're a climate believer or a skeptic, you need to know about the movement transformations so well described in the first half of this mixed bag of sociological perspectives, and if you don't give a hoot about the argument, the last half will make you glad or mad or smile at the little boys fighting over a dead cat. At least it's all well written.

An excellent scholarly resource

This comprehensive, mostly easy-to-read book offers a great resource for graduate students. I used it in an environmental sociology seminar and found that it helped students from different academic sub-disciplines to quickly get up to speed on trends in sociological research on climate change. Each chapter ends with comments and suggestions for future research directions, which served as an invaluable resource for the students.

Interesting calendar. Loaded with interesting stellar facts although that makes it a bit busy, and so it is sometimes hard to distinguish things you write on it. I got around this by using colored pens. The pictures for each month are fabulous though.

Nice (and informative) calendar with really beautiful pictures of constellations, galaxies, etc. Facts appear throughout each month concerning discoveries (tomorrow, for instance, is the day that Galileo discovered the moon Ganymede orbiting Jupiter back in 1610), and the positions of planets and stars.

About the Author
Leslie Moise lives in Louisville, KY on a bluff half a mile above the Ohio River. Her memoir, Love is the Thread A Knitting Friendship and her historical novel Judith explore the importance of friendship between women. She holds a PH.D. in 19th century British literature. Moise is currently at work on the Judith prequel, Under the Pomegranate Tree.

This book was a smile elicitor at every page. A great collection of memories to celebrate the life of a courageous, beautiful, caring friend. Her words and accomplishments in life will live on in the memories of so many people she touched. Well done Leslie!

A wonderful read, not to be missed

I had the honor of being an early reader of Leslie's book, and got to watch it evolve and grow. I love the relationship between these two women, and I love even more how Leslie honored her friend of so many years. It's a wonderful book. Not to be missed. If you've ever had a friend you loved, who you could be totally yourself with, share laughter and tears, this book will touch your heart. Thank you, Leslie for writing this book. Beverly will live on in so many more hearts now.

Comprensive with modern applications; takes no prisoners

There are many reasons to love this book.

PROS

1. The author gives it away online, if you want, but the hardcover is so reasonably priced (compare to today's textbook prices!) that having a printed book and supporting the author is the way to go.

2. There is supplementary material at the author's site, including applications with the incredible freeware math package Sage.

3. The book is comprehensive, covering all of the usual theory but also including important modern applications to cryptography.

4. The book is clearly written, and, with some diligence, suited to self-study.

CONS

Very small ones.

1. There are a few editing issues (but nothing remotely serious).

2. The typeface is small.

3. The book takes no prisoners (see below).

The book opens with the usual review of proofs, set theory, etc., and then gets into a very comprehensive treatment of groups. Rings are then covered and the book winds up with vector spaces and fields. All about what you'd expect, but the applications are there, especially to cryptography, and advanced stuff (think Galois and the like) is introduced. The problems range from pure exercises to serious challenge, and some solutions are available.

The writing is good. The book is clear and lucid, though not wordy: you'll need to pay close attention especially if learning on your own.

Above I mention that the book takes no prisoners. What I mean is that the author does not compromise. Nothing is "light" or "easy" or glossed over. The book demands much of the student and provides much in return. It is most definitely not for dabblers. But if you are serious about learning this subject, the book will pay back your efforts and then some.

I have to commend the author for making such a good textbook, with all its supplements, available to the public at such a reasonable cost (no cost at all, if you don't want the hardcover edition). I hope such offerings can counteract the textbook greed that today harms rather than helps the student. Hats off to Dr. Judson for this easy to recommend book.

High quality

I downloaded this book after taking a first course in Abstract, while looking for examples of using Abstract algebra with Sage. That this book is one of the few--if not the only one--that does that, while at the same time being available under an open source license, encouraged me to support it.

I haven't read the whole text yet, but, for the reasons above, it deserves mention. If nothing else, this would make a great supplement to many Algebra courses, serving to enrich the syllabus with examples and technological applications.

My point of comparison, by the way, is A first course in Abstract algebra by Fraleigh, which I thought was also an excellent text. That was concise and clear, while this text looks like it's strength is in applications and breadth.

Good Reference Book

Even though no book was required for my undergraduate abstract algebra course this book was recommended as a reference. Through the course I this book was indeed helpful. The book was also available for free as an online download but I thought that it would be better to pay the author for the time and effort put in. For the price of the book it was more than worth it!!

Love those squirrels

If you get a kick out of squirrels, this is the calendar for you. Nice size boxes for writing in your itinerary, U.S. and international holidays included, features 6 bonus months. Also includes moon phases. Squirrel pictures are very cute and entertaining.
