A Classic Part of Many Childhoods

Laboulaye's Fairy Book is a classic volume of fairy tales from different lands. It was originally written in French, and then eventually translated into English.
The style of writing is a pleasure to read, and the stories generally clever without being patronizing. Some of the stories do drag a bit in length, though.
As to audience, I would say this is a good book for anyone, though there was one story that was a bit heavy-handed with the Christian themes (The Castle of Life), and another (The Three Citrons) was modestly racist (the cruel antagonist was the only black character in the whole volume).
There are no illustrations, there are a few dropped-letter scanning errors (mainly at the beginning of each tale), and...there was one foot note that was linked, but it was left in the text immediately after the notation, so I don't know why they bothered.

It's a nice diversion, but some of the tales need tweaking for today's sensibilities if you're going to read it to your little ones. a couple, I think, would make a nice base for a Disney tale.
