I finally found what I have been looking for !

I went through a rough transition when I found out that God may be an ET ! I stood by my policy of keeping an open mind no matter how extreme it may appear to be. I have been doing a lot of reading on the different ET's who have been working with us. Just finished reading another book on the Arcturians. When I started to read this one to see how their stories compared, it took me completely by surprise. The other book pales in comparison with this one. It concurs with the material in that book, but has a lot more detail, and appears to be a lot more accurate. This book had such a strong impact on me that I could only handle small amounts at a time. There is a lot packed between the lines. The energies that pour out of it are very evident. This book will hold your attention all the way. You will realize that you are one of the most fortunate beings in this World to have the good fortune of reading this book. It will change your life. I especially enjoyed the detailed tour of their Spacecraft, and how they transmute the different energies. The Arcturians are one of the most advanced and benevolent group of beings watching and gently guiding us into the 5th dimension. It also provides you with some very powerful techniques for clearing your mind and developing your psychic abilities. You will appreciate the power, the protection and the gifts presented to you by the Arcturians. I would love to share this new discovery with others who may be interested in the Arcturians. A CONFIRMATION for me. Compassionate ET's helping humanity.

A personal contact/encounter experience with 2 beings calling themselves "Masters of Light" led me to seek out who they were, and they are the Arcturians, Masters of Light, Energy and Aura. I had NO idea this book was published so long ago, and many, many things written about them, coming from them, I can assure you, are true. I found myself, still, totally amazed to meet them, and am awed by the gentle, loving God-like presence and energy they emminate. The drawing in the book which shows their face, is a close resemblence, but misses the importance of the nose structure that radiates and glows while they are communicate. That is their facial focal point. I 100% believe in the descriptives of the rooms on their spacecraft. I am also very greatful for discovering this book, so I could learn more about who they are, and what their purpose is in aiding the planet, along with co-operation from the Galactic Federation, and the Brotherhood who is doing the work of Jesus in guiding the planet towards her ascension. You get a real feel for their loving energy and consistant message of helping humanity. I have found no other books that bring forth this feeling, than this wonderful book.

Packed with information

Well written, thought-provoking channeled information from extra-terrestrials commonly mentioned by other authors. I know I'm going to have to hold onto this book and refer to it often on my spiritual journey, as a lot of it was difficult to grasp in the first read (and I'm a big reader). As they say, the more I learn, the less I know...and I love it that way. What this book did was to point my way on the journey, and validate the steps I have taken so far.

Not recommended for general reading. This book will only make sense to you if you are already on the path.

Russell Walker, Ph.D. is Clinical Associate Professor at the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University. Power of Big Data that you cant find by "google search" or HBR

This book explains the definition and power of Big Data by providing numerous examples that, as a consumer, we an relate to - Netflix to LinkedIn to Nest. I am responsible for an IoT platform in a B2B environment and this book provided many great monetization strategies. What amazed me the most is how thoughtful the author was to make these solid concepts actionable (SIGMA framework) for people like me.

I highly recommend this book esp. some on in product management role!

Like the Internet before it

This book is one of the few to provide business leadership with the tools they need to understand how the presence of big data will impact existing business models. There are two areas that are of particular value to the audience, namely data fusion (Chapter 6) and business model disruption (Chapter 11).

Data fusion is an underappreciated aspect to big data and is extremely hard to do right especially when the myriad of GIS data products are incorporated into customer and asset data. Data fusion is a key to monetizing data. Chapter 6 is a solid summary of what several companies accomplished by taking the time to do data fusion right from the beginning. There is always an egregious investment in time and resources to determine the data to fuse, how to prepare each data source to be fused and then designing and testing the fusion process. This is implicit in what Zillow and Mint did and the book provides well-defined lessons learned that can be incorporated into other similar efforts.

Chapter 11 addresses the key theme of business model disruption. The presence of data that fits the definition of “big data” does not mean that a company can go out, sell data, and start printing money to support its business operations, both internal and external. More likely the presence of a business big data means that its current business model is going to undergo major perturbations and the author provides an example of this with location services. All aspects of the business model (customer facing, value proposition, core processes, partner process, cost structure and revenue models) will be impacted. Like the Internet before it, big data provides businesses with the ability to positively impact all areas of its operations and help manage the risks associated with structural changes.

The author also demonstrates how value creation partners can not only be incorporated into the data monetization process but also the challenges of doing so and the potential outcomes that exist from such an investment.

Dr. Walker has provided a book for leadership to determine the breadth and depth of changes that will occur to a business model based on the presence of big data. Very few do that, certainly none in big data that I can remember.

This book has educated me, in knowledge, remembrance, and emotion.

At the end of this month, we will be remembering Hurricane Katrina on its tenth anniversary. That is hard to fathom. As memories tend to do: they fade. More so if you were secondhand witness to the events, as was I.

DROWNED CITY, written and illustrated by Don Brown poignantly captures the essence—the memories—of a devastating hurricane. It is amazing how many details, subtle and bold, can be captured in the combination of art panels and word bubbles. Make no mistake, this graphic novel is thoroughly researched and powerfully accurate. (Brown includes several pages of his references in the back of the book; almost every panel is lifted from a direct quote of victim or participant.)

I read this book with my children, both of whom were born after the events of Hurricane Katrina. I think I learned more than they did. It saddens me to think about the 5,000 children that were separated from their parents—separated by stretches of water that encompass land seven-times the size of Manhattan. I felt fear for those trapped in the rancid environments, their rescuers blockaded on the water by knots of living, poisonous snakes. Though this is an appropriate book for late elementary school readers, my children were emotionally torn at the thought of lost, sick animals (though the residential rescue of animals during Katrina has established new thinking for future events).

To say I learned a lot from a graphic novel would be an understatement. This book has educated me, in knowledge, remembrance, and emotion. It’s simplicity is powerful; it’s message clear. Hold on to this and do not forget.

A Somber, Yet Engrossing, Look At The Katrina Disaster

Being released right around the tenth anniversary of the Hurricane Katrina disaster that leveled the city of New Orleans, “Drowned City” is a somber, straightforward (yet surprisingly engrossing) description of the key events before, during, and after the disaster.

The tone of the book is melancholy, but not overtly depressing. There just seems to be a great deal of respect for the storm and those who died in it. I like how author/illustrator Don Brown tells “the facts” in a way that makes them very accessible…like he is telling a story. This is a great approach for young adults who won’t want the “history book description” of the event, but rather something a bit more personal and close-to-home.

The illustrations do not distract from the text, nor are they boring…the perfect combination. I have no background in art to comment on any specific styles that Brown used, but I will say that I enjoyed the illustrations and found them to be very much in tune with the text (the non-technical explanation!).

“Drowned City” can also serve dual purposes:
1. A first history lesson for those not old enough to appreciate the scale and scope of Katrina.
2. A look back (can it be ten years already?!) for those who remember the events and like to wax “nostalgic” (although that is definitely not the appropriate word in this case).

Overall, I very much enjoyed this graphic novel. I don’t read too many graphic works, but this one caught my attention and was both interesting/informative to page through.

In DROWNED CITY, author and artist Don Brown takes on the tragic and controversial events that changed and destroyed the lives of thousands of New Orleans residents forever. On August 29, 2005, a devastating storm swept up New Orleans. It killed more than 1,400 people, and the ones it spared were left scarred and broken. As it does with all big storms, the National Hurricane Center gave this monstrous calamity a name: Katrina.

Katrina drowned and crushed thousands of citizens as the water rose up to 20 feet. The people of New Orleans screamed for help, but help did not come. Officials did not quickly respond to the suffering and it seemed like the support they needed had failed to arrive. Ordinary people who owned boats rescued as many people as they could until the National Guard finally came. People were not allowed to bring their pets onto the rescue vehicles, and the cats and dogs were left to starve. President George Bush merely watched from a plane as the chaos continued.

Brown wrote and illustrated a gripping story about the tragedy of Katrina. The full color, full page panels depicted the people swimming in the rivers that used to be avenues and the helicopters that finally came to the rescue. Every drawing was so beautiful and expressive that I couldn’t help but feel like I knew the people of New Orleans personally.

DROWNED CITY is extremely well-researched. Brown used real quotes and (often shocking) exact numbers and figures of the volume of water levels, death tolls and rescue vehicles. His three-page bibliography and source notes contained books and articles that few could read in a lifetime.

Although DROWNED CITY was relatively short (96 pages), it taught me more than a 300-page text book ever could, and it was far more intriguing. Its succinct and clear sentences describing the beautiful artwork on each page made it gripping and easy to understand. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to know the inside scoop about Hurricane Katrina.

The Ineffable Glory by E.M. Bounds.

After reading his "Heaven, A Place, A City, A Home", I had expected this to be very similar. The initial and ending portions are very good, but the middle of the book was a discussion on how we are going to be resurrected from the dead based on questions of the "dust" from which we are going to be raised. I feel this is one of those discussions that are irrelevant to our actual resurrection and skipped a great deal of it.

About the Author
B. R. Fleming grew up in the '60's reading sci-fi novels and watching sci-fi movies and was a musician in rock bands that played psychedelic rock and the music of the British invasion. After serving in the US Air Force as a Technical Instructor during the Vietnam War, he returned to civilian life and began a career in teaching, which he has followed since. He lives in Southern California and still plays music and teaches classes in English Lit and Creative Writing in high school, as well as college classes in Teaching the Gifted and Talented and Drama. He studied Screenwriting at the University of California, Irvine, and has completed five feature-length film scripts. His screenplays have been marketed to Sony Pictures and Walt Disney Studios Pictures Marketing. His novel, Summertime Blues, recounts life in the '60's through the eyes of teen Peter Bennings and focuses on the struggles that all teens must face in "growing up." His next novel, The Secret People, follows Lesley Whitney as she enters the realm of Native American Spiritualism and encounters the Inorganic Beings on her search for her missing father in the Four corners region of the US. Mr. Fleming's next project will be The Colony Trilogy: Torus I; The Colony; and The Coming, a fact-based sci-fi series revolving around colonization of the solar system.

An Excellent Summer Read!!!!

It's easy to capitulate to the thousands of pop-culture novels out there, which will soon be available "at-a-movie-theater-near-you, but when you stumble across something not commercialized, that unique read, or film independent, there is an obligation to take five minutes and write a "lil-somethin'-somethin' on Amazon.

I highly recommend this novel, for it captures the viewpoint of ANY young person trying to survive in an absurd world. But seriously...it is entertaining!

I grew up in the same neighborhood and went to the same schools during the same time period as the author. I know it is a fictional account, however, the river, Fort Roots, the old army base (Camp Robinson), the railroad tracks, 5 mile creek, the Scenic Drive in, and the skating rink are all places I frequented. My favorite author is John Steinbeck. His works work because they are about real places. This book is about real places that are now captured in real time. The characters are based on real people even if they are combinations of us all. Mr. Fleming paints a very accurate picture of growing up in the 1960's.Summertime Blues

Relax and and go with this journey...!

Deceptively innocent and easy to read, with all the angst, energy, longing and frustration of awakening puberty and the 60's with a backdrop of the music...always the music. I found this a delightfully easy and undemanding rolling read, and easy to pick back up and "rejoin" Pter as he sets his memoirs of his journey through puberty to the backdrop of the rhythms of a different time. The kindling of love and the confounding push of the libido toward a susccession of emotional cliffs. An age before the internet. Peter is one of the nice guys, seeming to be less interested in whether he finishes last...he just wants the chance to play his part in the show.

John P Jeffries has worked in many countries around the world, consulting on the Oracle technology. He is interested in different cultures and enjoys teaching others. At present, John lives and works in Singapore and is employed as a subject matter expert at a global bank, delivering enterprise-wide infrastructure design solutions, particularly in the database private cloud and data replication space. Since he wrote his first book, Oracle GoldenGate 11g Implementer's Guide, he has been heavily focused on leveraging Oracle's Fusion Middleware products (including GoldenGate) to address performance, data migration, and data delivery issues. With over 15 years of experience in Oracle, John has worked for a number of global organizations, such as BT, Siebel Systems, Dell, Thomson Reuters, and Oracle Corporation, to name a few. At Oracle, he worked in advanced customer services on key accounts as a senior principal consultant and became the UK data replication expert, often publishing articles on his own website (http://oracle11ggotchas.com/). not quite one unit

The core of this implementer’s guide consists of chapters 2 and 4-7 which deal on approx. 200 pages with configuration issues. Chapters 8-10 with together approx. 100 pages help to master administrative challenges. I like the level of detail presented. These chapters are detailed and specific down to the command line; in a step-by-step manner. When appropriate they refer to other sources, for instance to MOS documents,. If you have recently attended an Oracle University’s workshop you get an idea what to expect. Of course, without the virtual machines for your exercises. (Offering such machines-right out of the cloud-which are suitable to work through a book like this could be a new business opportunity for publishers.)
I consider database administrators the main target audience because most people, who implement GoldenGate 12c, will also administering it later on and will very likely also be the DBAs of the involved databases. Having experience with GoldenGate is undoubtedly an advantage for DBAs and that’s where this book is about.
Besides being a DBA I’ve bought this book also because I like to get information about issues Oracle’s own documenters might rather skip to mention. Well, I cannot tell that the author has taken a grain of salt on Oracle’s product. OK, such is not necessarily to expect in the step-by-step-exercises mentioned above. However, the surrounding chapters, Chapter 1: Getting started and Chapter 11: The Future of GoldenGate, could have been a place to show some critical distance. While these chapters shall set the stage I felt they are rather short on information and read like written by a salesperson. Here the Oracle documentation does a better job and is indeed more neutral. By skimming over this first and last chapter only I wouldn’t have bought this book, certainly not! Yet I’m glad to possess it and am looking forward to get hands on experience.
For its core chapters I’d give this book unhesitatingly five stars but have to subtract one star for the “salesperson chapters” which to read was a waste of time. Also Chapter 3: Design Considerations is a déjà vu with chapter 1, it contains redundant information and illustrations or adds new topics merely by mentioning them. If you don’t already know the themes it is touching then you have definitely to resort to other sources. Somehow I got the impression that the chapters 1, 3, and 11 must have been written by another author.
Let me give an example for the downgrade: The active-passive topology is short mentioned in chapter 1 on page 16. There you’ll find the promise that differences between GoldenGate and Data Guard are explained in greater detail in chapter 3. Whereas in chapter 3 you’ll find an equally short and greatly redundant section on active-passive replication (only 21 text lines starting on page 79f). There you’ll get the information that Data Guard features a physical standby database (synchronizing at block level) and that GoldenGate may not necessarily be the best Disaster Recovery solution. Further a note that Data Guard usage is included in GoldenGate’s license. That’s all. No mentioning of logical standby, different database versions, no decision criterions what product to use when.
Readers who are solely interested in solution scenarios (like architects) will not benefit from this book. Administrators (and implementers alike) who must be able to do also the architect’s part have to complement this book with Oracle’s free documentation and whitepapers. Whatever, 8 chapters are superb, dealing step by step with the implementation and administration of Oracle’s GoldenGate and which do help to put this product into practice, efficiently, reliably and with confidence. I can warmly recommend it.

Perfect startup learning goldengate

This book is written in very simple, straight forward and easy to understand language. Good amount of details in topics of Goldengate processes (Manager, Extract, Pump, and Replicat) parameter settings. Simple explanations of new Goldengate 12c features; coordinated and intergrated processes, password security with Credential store, Goldengate agent implementation on oracle grid infrastructure, and Oracle streams migration setup to Goldengate processes. For developers topics as using and defining macros for better and easy deployments of automate repetitive tasks wit exception handlers. Default aspects as integration wit Oracle Data Integrator the E-TL architecture. Very useful Goldengate 12c implementation handbook for developers and DBA’s, experience as newbie.

easy to understand and follow

I was looking forward to this book with high expectations and must say it has delivered on it comprehensively. I found this book to be quite informative, easy to understand and follow. The book is very well organised and flows easily between chapters. Every aspect of Golden Gate is simplistically described with plenty of examples.

Coming from an Oracle Streams background, I was quite interested in the integrated capture introduced in 12c. The book does an excellent job in explaining this very clearly and has been a great help at work.

Overall an excellent book and I would highly recommend it to someone who is not only starting Golden Gate but also to someone upgrading to the 12c version.

Excellent Book!

Book was written around 1902. It is a college-level history book. Surprisingly, I found it to be an interesting read and I'm not a history major. The book provides a good overview of the political climate that led to the revolution, the key players, both Patriot & British, in the conflict, and some very interesting historical side notes that that most Americans may not aware of. The book is not a fast read, but well worth the effort. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in knowing more about the American Revolution.

The content of the book was excellent but there were no footnotes, no listed publisher, etc. for the book I received. I assume this may reflect that the book was first published many years ago and the persons or company who printed the version of this book that I received didn't bother to include that information, if it was available.

The book, written just after the start of the 20th Century, presents the history of the American Revolution from a very even-handed perspective, viewing it far more believable perspective than the usual rosy-colored histories of an event that ultimately played a singular role in the history of the human race. It shows the loyalists as often being less anti-American and more simply interested in maintaining some sort of relationship with the English crown. It is important to understand, as the author points out, that many of the pro-independence colonialists, who represented a decided minority of the population within the 13 colonies, were committed to independence as far back as the early 1760s, and the events between the French and Indian Wars and the War for Independence, such as the Stamp Act and Tea Act, which for all practical purposes were not very oppressive, were used by them as excuses to build support for their cause, and in fact the colonialists had achieved the goal set out by them as required to prevent a revolution, and Great Britain met all of the demands in the Declaration of Independence, by three years prior to the end of hostilities.

A great example of the uniqueness of the book can be found in how the author described Benedict Arnold. Too often, Arnold is described as a fierce patriot who fought brilliantly under awful odds during the attack on Quebec, and then again heroically at the Battle of Saratoga, both of which are true. But too often Arnold is shown as a victim of the machinations against him in the Continental Congress, which he was except for the fact he was by far not the only such victim. It delves into Arnold's long-held Tory beliefs and the greed and resentment that drove him to becoming the classical traitor in the eyes of Americans even until modern times. Arnold planned for a long time to betray the colonial cause, and convinced Washington to give him the perfect opportunity to do so by seeking the appointment to West Point.

If you are dedicated to learning as much as possible about American history and the history of the revolutionary period, this book is a good read. It is written in the vernacular of 100 years ago, and it is quite dry. A good read for those who meet that description.
