Dr. Nobles’ professional works consist of leadership and project management in aviation, cryptology, operations, and military planning areas of expertise. He is a commercial rated pilot and general aviation enthusiast. Dr. Nobles is committed to improving general aviation safety; hence, the reason for this book.
His research focus areas are technology implementation, technological discontinuities, disruptive innovations, and the adverse implications caused by the continuous integration of new technologies in general aviation. Dr. Nobles is a Life Member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated.

Following the disastrous loss of the Malaysian airliner over a year ago, plus the numerous stories of pilot errors causing airline crashes or near misses, this research study provides some brilliant insight via a Ph.D. dissertation study on pilot’s opinions on ‘glass cockpits’ (technology based airplane cockpits). The results of this study derived enriched data from one central research question and three sub-questions and content analysis from technical reports and studies. This case study produced the themes in training, safety, proficiency, competency, and familiarization, transformative and challenging transitions, situational awareness, aeronautical decision-making, single pilot resource management, and regulations.
The recommendations presented in this study can be used to improve the integration of TAA in general aviation with at least three recommendations for future research involved determining the impact of FITS on general aviation pilots to evaluate if FITS improved aviation safety and pilots’ decision-making, and to conduct future research on the how TAA influence human factors in general aviation pilots. Those involved in piloting of small to large airplanes, federal mandates for training and certification, as well as federal laws and regulations that enhance safety for flying would all benefit from reading this study.
